Rolls-Royce
Silver Shadow II

1979

A “last of the model” example that makes as a wonderful driver example presenting in lovely condition!

This is a very nice, original presenting Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II finished in Garnet. Garnet is a non-metallic rich plum colour that looks black in low light and night time but displays a rich burgundy in strong sun. The interior is finished biscuit tan Connolly leather hides with matching carpet.

This is a 1980 year model so it has all the engineering and design improvements developed and incorporated over the years of the Silver Shadow model run. It also has the rare dual rear view door mirrors. She also has a Sony radio/CD system fitted which works well. If you are purist and prefer factory original, please enquire.

She is a rather all original presenting Silver Shadow II that was recently gone-over by the Park-Ward Motor Museum - a nation-wide leader in Rolls-Royce restoration with over 40 years Rolls-Royce and Bentley experience.

Body-wise, she is very straight with mostly original paint. This is quite rare for these cars considering the factory paint would rarely go the distance. Although it is shiny and rather lustrous, as you can see in the photos, there are areas that have some light buff-through which a perfectionist would want to attend to. In addition, there are signs of age to include chips, blemishes and signature cracking in the lead-wiping areas of the car (Rolls-Royce used a process known as "lead-wiping" in which lead was used to join body panels as opposed to bondo). It was a true craftsmen process - lost in modern car manufacturing methods. With this art, came issues of the lead expanding and contracting at a different rate to the steel and aluminum on the car causing certain places of the overlying paint to stress crack. Literally, every Silver Shadow ever made now displays this symptom). So please do not expect perfection from a show car point of view but it is otherwise very acceptable for driver use. If this is what you seek, you will not see the need to refinish. However, should you wish us to attend to the paint rectification, we would be happy to do so through our in-house paint shop. Otherwise, we have fairly priced the car on its current status.

The fine lines were recently touched up by hand because the original lines were showing wear thru from years of polishing (this confirms originality!). Carried out by a craftsman of the art, these were done on the waist-rails and hubcap beauty trim rings in accordance with Rolls-Royce factory methods.

The interior of this car is superbly finished in a rich biscuit tan with matching carpets. The Connolly leather is in excellent condition with the front seats appearing to have been lightly reconnolised at some point (not by us) whilst the rear appear original. Without any notable marks or blemishes it presents with a nice amount of patina as these cars should display. Please have a look at the photo link of the many close-ups of the leather.
The dash is good with no leather pulling around the vents.

The burl walnut wood finishes were redone at some stage and present very nicely with a lot of rich and deep burl grain. Usually, by this stage, the wood shows cracks in the very thick and deep lacquer which in mostly all cases then peels off after many years of seasonal temperature change. The cost of redoing interior wood is around $3,000 so for this car to have been redone is a great bonus for the next owner.

All chrome and bright work are excellent. Glass is good and have been tinted. This can easily be removed if you prefer without as I do. All lights, instruments, features and functions are in working order.

Mechanically, the car has been subject to the 40 year service and restoration experience of the
Park-Ward Motor Museum's private workshop and trained RR mechanics and craftsmen. Like every other car delivered by Park-Ward it comes with everything in excellent working and operating condition, fully inspected and serviced. This includes the all important hydraulics & brakes - fully inspected and pressure tested with any parts replaced and/or over-hauled as required -  reservoir, pumps, accumulators, valves, hoses, calipers. All electrics; seats, windows, gauges and instruments have been fully gone thru and serviced as required. The climate control in good working order with the heater nice and hot and the air conditioning blowing icy cold. In summary, the car is shipped with everything fully operational, down to the smallest light bulb.

The tires are recent Hankook whitewalls in the 235/75 recommended size, in good condition and plenty of tread.

The car is quite a beautiful presenting example that is well in advance of most Silver Shadow IIs otherwise available. She presents as a strong 8 out of 10 example that can be bought for a good price.

~~ A very attractive Silver Shadow II finished in not often seen “Garnet”. Not a show quality car but otherwise a gorgeous example nonetheless and priced accordingly. Besides some minor paint issues, everything else; mechanically and operationally is to the high standard of all Park-Ward Motors' cars.  ~~

International buyers always welcome
